Maybe you’ve had the great idea of making sushi with your kids. “It’ll be fun,” you thought. “It seems simple enough,” you thought.
Eight mutilated logs of rice (and what seems to be a single-use wooden sushi mat) later, the experiment has proven futile. I exaggerate. I’m sure you ended up with a few decent rolls, but the cost:benefit ratio was way off. I really like turning food into crafts with my girls, but sushi has turned out to be a real chore when I’ve tried it.
I was watching an episode of Street Food USA where they were touring Hawaii, and the musubi intrigued me. They looked like an oversized Nigiri wrapped with nori.
Spam musubi is a snack and lunch food composed of a slice of grilled Spam sandwiched either in between or on top of a block of rice, wrapped together with nori in the tradition of Japanese onigiri.

You might be curling your nose at the thought of Spam in general, unless you’re one of the few that love it (it’s OK, I like it on occassion), but you can use whatever meat you’d like – raw or not. You basically just need the Musubi mold, and you’re ready to go!
